OTEEA Robotics Workshop

This workshop-style event for educators will be a hands-on, minds-on day focused on ROBOTICS.  The day will feature numerous options for you to learn from the best robotics educators in Ohio.

The day will also include an opportunity to tour and learn more about the Robotics & Advanced Manufacturing Technology Education Collaborative (RAMTEC).  RAMTEC has truly been a catalyst for how education and business can collaborate to fill the robotics and automation skill set needs of a next-generation workforce.

Sessions:

  • Getting Started with VEX Coding Studio
    Learn the basics of the new VEX Coding Studio software.  VEX experts will lead you through the navigation of the interface and share great tips to get you and your team on the way to a championship VEX team.

  • LEGO EV3 - Introduction to Programming​
    LEGO Certified Trainer, Tad Douce, will lead participants through the basics of getting started with LEGO EV3.  This session will include the Basics of the Intelligent Brick, an overview of the LEGO Mindstorms Education software,  and provide you the opportunity to program an EV3  robot for yourself.
 
  • Getting Started with Elementary Robotics and Coding​
    The elementary robotics and coding workshop will include discussion of why introducing robotics and coding to young learners is important, how NGSS, ISTE and Ohio Technology standards are correlated to robotics and coding, hands-on exploration of various robot systems for non-readers through 6th grade, and other related resources (books, websites, apps, support groups and clubs). Presented by Laurie Green, Technology Integration and Education Outreach Specialist from Cleveland, OH, and Bob Claymier, elementary STEM consultant with STEM is Elementary from Delaware, OH.

  • LEGO EV3 - Advanced Programming Techniques​
    Join LEGO Certified Trainer, Tad Douce, to program your EV3 at the next level.  This session will show you the skills needed to get your students creating more complex programs with the LEGO Mindstorms Education software.  You will get a chance to try Data Operations, Variables and  learn about Proportional Line Following utilizing nested loops and switches.
 
  • Open Your Robotics Program with the moto:bit Board
    The moto:bit is a carrier board for the micro:bit. Similar to an Arudino shield, it is designed to add functionality to the micro:bit without the hassle of a number of other boards, soldering, and all of those jumper wires.  Jeff Branson from Sparkfun Electronics will be leading you through the use of this great tool in a live video stream.
 
  • RAMTEC Tour
    See the most advanced educational robotics training facility in the nation.  Learn how RAMTEC has changed what "workforce ready" means in the Midwest.  With access to advanced industrial automation systems and cutting edge simulation technology this idea has launched a movement that is rippling nationwide.
